Binge Eating

No more eating your feelings.

If you find yourself feeling out of control around or even addicted to food, I can help you evaluate your relationship to eating and take steps to address underlying issues so you feel able to cope more effectively. I take a weight-inclusive approach when treating eating behaviors, and focus on the reduction of eating behaviors that cause distress in your life rather than on weight loss.

Treatment approach

To address binge eating, I use approaches from both cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). We’ll explore the your triggers for binge eating, such as certain emotional states or specific foods. Based on this understanding, we’ll develop alternate strategies to cope with challenging emotions and help you navigate cravings without giving in to them. Particularly in the early stages of treatment, we’ll help you set up your personal environment for success, for example by making changes to the foods available in your home or having a specific plan when attending events involving food. As you begin to feel more control over your eating, we’ll shift attention to anticipating future challenges to help you feel confident in navigating difficult situations without returning to old habits.
